Terms and Conditions of Accessing the Archives
The Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center, affiliated with Morningside University, offers access to historical documents and artifacts relating to the history of Morningside University. Access to these digital artifacts and records are provided for educational and research purposes. The following pertains to both the physical and electronic/online archives and exhibits.
Historical Content
Records found in the archives reflect the attitudes, beliefs, and perspectives of a particular era and may contain content that is offensive to users. The views expressed in these materials are not endorsed by Morningside University or the Learning Center. Users take full responsibility in understanding the historical context of the era in which the records belong, and the University is not responsible for providing it.
Copyrights & Trademarks
Due to the nature of archival record collection, many of the records featured in our databases do not contain enough information to make a clear identification of the existence of a rights holder other than the University. It is the Learning Center's policy to make available records with unknown rights holders until those rights holders make themselves known. To do so, please contact the library director.
Publication Permissions
All information, records and/or artifacts obtained from the archives that is to be used in publication must first receive permission to do so from the library director. Morningside University reserves the right to deny publication of any information obtained from the archives as it sees necessary. The researcher acknowledges that if permission is granted to publish information and/or records from the archives, permission is only granted for the content that was provided for review and the records that Morningside University has legal ownership for. Any other artifacts and/or records is the researcher's responsibility to obtain the necessary rights from known or unknown rights holders before publication.

Rules of the Archives
- Researchers must sign an Archival Access and Research Permission form each fiscal year (June-May).
- Researchers must have a clear and stated purpose for accessing archival records.
- Archival records do not circulate to individuals.
- The archival storage areas are closed to users unless accompanied by a library staff member.
- Photocopying and scanning is available upon request. Restrictions may be enforced based on the physical nature and condition of the artifact.
- Use of computers, cell phones, cameras, audio/video recorders and other such technology must have permission before use.
- Some artifacts are restricted due to privacy concerns, and will not be made available without seeking addition permissions from the archives that are made on each individual basis.
- Food and beverages are not allowed. This includes water.
- No pens allowed. Pencils only.
- Treat all records and artifacts appropriately and with care, including washing hands before and after, not applying skin treatments such as lotion, and wearing gloves whenever possible. (Archival gloves are supplied).
