As we all know, the day of costumes, candy, and children is approaching. Although Halloween is around the corner, we cannot forget about the day that has brought so many countries together. This day is United Nations Day.

The United Nations was started on October 24th of 1945. This day marks the consolidation of 193 nations, including the United States. The United Nations is an organization between nations that promotes international cooperation and peace. Before the United Nations was the League of Nations, which was ineffective. The flaws of the League of Nations resulted in a new organization.
According to Time magazine, there are five things that all people need to appreciate about the United Nations. These five things consist of:
  • Protecting global health
  • Aiding refugees
  • Preventing wars
  • Preventing scandals
  • Creating the Secretary General position
