According to adweek.com, social media has taken off and won’t be landing any time soon. It may have been thought of as a fad is the days of AOL, but now that people can access their Facebook or Twitter accounts on their phones, social media has become an even more integral part of our lives with 73% of smartphone owners accessing social networks through apps at least once per day. It has also has become a threat to our lives. Privacy on social media is often taken for granted, even though nothing is private on the internet.
Maintaining your privacy on social media is complicated, so the HJF Library is hosting a talk by library intern and Digital Rights Awareness Coordinator Kayla Samek on Thursday, April 23rd at 2:00 PM. She will walk through the privacy policies for networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. She will also present tools to help users protect their privacy online, as well as give tips on keeping sensitive information safe on Facebook and Twitter.
